We will provide news, information and views about what is happening in Vancouver and Whistler. Focusing mostly, although not exclusively, on construction leading up to the Olympics.

Let the Marketing Begin

The big event unveiling the emblem for the 2010 Vancouver Olympics happened at GM Place and was broadcast live across Canada.

The production values were high. In addition to the expected boring speakers, the more boring ones were before the TV broadcast started, there were Cirque de Soleil acrobats doing a performance, singing and of course pageantry.

When I first saw the emblem, I wasn't that impressed. It lacked the slickness that the bid logo had. However the more I look at it, the more it grows on me. It is quite simple and easily recognizable.

Translink announces Bowen Island Passenger Ferry Pilot Project

According to the North Shore Outlook Translink has announced a pilot project for a passenger only ferry serving Bowen Island to Downtown with a stop in West Vancouver. This was the most recommended option in the Harbour Passenger Marine Study done by Translink in 2004.

I think this is a great idea. Using the high speed ferry technology that is now available is a great way to get people off the roads and into a quick, comfortable mass transit. There are so many commuters that do this commute each day, that there is a reasonable potential.

Free tickets have been available from Ticketmaster. Special guests have been promised.

It will be interesting to see if the logo can match the bid logo which in my opinion was a very nice logo.
